the product arrived quicker than I planned and works beautifully.
Definitely an improved design from the 7.2 volt unit that the batteries died on after many,many years.
I would recommend this unit to anyone. It is light weight, easy to use, and powerful for its size.

Over the years, these cordless vacuums have really improved. The Black and Decker 9.6 Volt Cyclonic-Action Dustbuster is a real winner. It is light and powerful. So good that I have given two of these as gifts.
Will the Dustbuster pick up everything? No, of course not. Reading the reviews of not only this vacuum but many other portables, I found that sometimes negative reviews were based on unrealistic expectations for a small portable vacuum.
For the price, this dustbuster is a nice way of cleaning up light spills. I highly recommend it.

If you clean the filter consistantly it will give you a decent suction for most fine dirt, sawdust etc....dont expect to pick up nuts and bolt or even screws......as the name implies, it is a Dustbuster..............works well at it's intended chores.....battry life is ok but for the amount of money I think it could be a little better.....buy again? Probably....

I've sat on the carpeted floor and vacuumed areas too small for my upright, or the vinyl tile strip in front of kitchen sink, stove, fridge, which is much easier than dragging out the big one and switching attachments, so the long cord is great. I don't have enough sockets in a small studio apt. to keep a cordless plugged in and recharging so preferred corded and you get much more power. I love it to do the bathroom floor around all those narrow spaces. So in the 4 months since purchase I've found lots of everyday uses. I don't suggest it for sucking up ashes in ashtrays tho, gunks up the fine mesh.
I think this ad picture shows an older model in error, perhaps the Pro 33 model, as I was delighted to receive the newer 800 watt one with light and added features.
Only downside is as others said, attachments or hose fall out frequently, I don't have the hand strength at 72 to shove them in any tighter, so slower shorter strokes help keep in place. Deducted one star for that annoyance. Maybe I'll duct tape the hose and the one I use most to hold it. Also, you have to hold it in one hand, if you set it down it flips itself over on one side blocking the air vents on that side and could overheat. The turbo force is that powerful. If the side air out blows around your small mess you are trying to clean up just use the hose so it is at a greater distance from the vents. Easy to clean cup and wash filter.
All in all it does more than the price would suggest. And with Super Saver Shipping - Great buy!

So I buy this vacuum an,initially, it is all I could want it to be. Powerful an easy to use. Then the day comes when I need a new filter.
I have spend hours in search of a simple filter. I even went to the company site and was told i would have to wait 6 weeks. Then I went to a local shop. The owner just laughed and told me that he would not even try to order the filters, "as it was a waste of time." I then found [...] and they had the correct filter on their website...so i ordered 4 of them and sat back and waited...and waited and then received an e-mail from them admitting to great difficulty finding these filters.
If you are going to buY this vacuum check to see if you run into the same problems that I did. The number that you need for the filter is EP035.
My vacuum is now nonfunctional

It's nice to have a smaller handheld that you can quickly take out for those small/sudden jobs, but overall it's not the best model. This is mainly because the suction isn't superb, and the attachments fall out often. Frustrating. I have to say I did use it recently to vacuum out my car - being an apartment person, it was a novel thing so I was happy in general, but what with the attachments falling out and how long it took, I was a bit annoyed.

Considering we only use it for litter/stray food, the suction power is more then sufficient, and will often last 10+ days before needing to be emptied and having the coffee filter replaced. For those giving this a poor review, you need to remember it's not a vacuum cleaner. It will not work wonders on carpet, although at times, I have used it to suck up crumbs from carpet (with and without the brush head). If you want to clean your carpet, or stairs, get a real vacuum. If you want something for small areas, and small jobs, this is perfect.
I will also add that the included instruction manual has directions for replacing the rechargable batteries with generic ones (RadioShack Style). So this item will surely last assuming you don't abuse it. However, with 6 months of use, the batteries show no signs of fatigue.

My son purchased this handheld vac for me at christmas and I'm dissapointed that the charge doesn't last very long at all. Works great, but you can't finish what you start. And the other thing it did not come with a small brush attachement. Would not reccommend soley on the fact that the power only last amount 10-15 minutes.

I needed a hand vac to clean up after my then 13 month old daughter after she finishes eating. It was a hassle to keep dragging out my full sized vac all the time. So I decided to get a hand vac. I did a little research and came across this one. The reviews weren't great, but the comments that were good made it sound ok. So I went out to Wal Mart and bought this vacuum. Well after getting it home and unpacking it, I found it was missing the power cord and attachments! That should have been my first warning. So I made another trip to Wal Mart and exchanged it for another one. Well I have had the thing about a month and a half now and it won't charge. I checked the battery, the wall outlet and everything else I thought of to check, and the only thing I can think of is that the power cord is not working. So I got out the warranty and guess what it doesn't cover any of the electrical components! What a crock! So I am left with a hand vac that can't be charged and a still messy 14 month old! Save your money and buy something other than a shark!

I LOVED this vacuum!! It was awesome...for a family of 6...it was great for the stairs, car, highchairs, dog fur. But now after having it for over a year...it will NOT hold a charge!! I'm SSSOOO upset!! We always charged it exactly as the manual said. It now runs for about 20 seconds then shuts off...uuugghhhh!! Now I have to buy another one AND it won't be by Dyson!!!

I bought the Dirt Devil 100 to use in my motor home. It works great to pick up not only dirt but hair for my short haired dog. I've also used in on upholstery with very good results. I previously owned a Shark 15 volt with roller brush. It is getting old so I am shifting it to car clean up only. So when I shopped for a replacement, it was down to The Euro Pro Shark 16.9 volt with motorized brush or this one. I could not find the Dirt Devil in a store to look at, but did look at the Euro Pro in the store.
I purchased the Dirt Devil because it had higher volts, the crevice tool is attached, and it is supposedly easier to empty the cup.
However, this DD does not have the immediate power suction my old 15 volt Shark has. You have to be more methodical about it, and run the thing slower over the areas. It picks up good though.
The Euro Pro has more bristles.
I like the attached crevice tool, one less thing to keep up with.
I really can't see the big deal that it is easier to empty the cup.

(A previous review had mentioned debris coming out of the exhaust vents but in actuality it is just the exhaust blowing around dust, dog hair, etc. that is on the surface being cleaned. The filter is not allowing debris to escape from the vacuum.)

I love this vacuum. The only thing to get used to is the small 'mouth' opening, which makes it a little more difficult to clean up large messes. But it's just as powerful as my old DustBuster and I prefer the ergonomics of this one. Doesn't hold as much dirt, but that's the price you pay for beauty, I suppose.

When fully charged, it works fine at picking up small amounts of water (my primary use for this device). Having a nicad battery means that it loses power fast and gets weak and does not pick-up much of anything at that point. The design engineering is clever and artful. It is loud. I really hope I can one day modify the device to use a lithium battery of the same voltage.
I waited for too many years for Dyson and Hoover to market a stylish wet/dry hand vac. this is the best one out there right now. Just needs a lithium battery and it would be perfect!

- This thing really holds a charge well, and suction is better than any others I've tried, even ones that should theoretically be much more powerful. I think that is in part due to the small mouth of the vacuum. (But no way is it going to pick up anything heavy.)
- The mouth of the vacuum is not very big, but it's not meant for vacuuming up large areas. It is perfect for getting into crevices (like in high chairs), corners, under base cabinets, behind furniture, along chair rails or baseboards, etc.
- The inside storage container is smaller than some others I've seen, but I used it multiple times every single day and probably empty it every 3-4 days. Emptying it is extremely easy, except that you have to put the top portion of the vacuum down because removing the filter and emptying the contents requires two hands.
- The only thing I'd really consider a "con" about this handheld is that the vent goes all the way around the middle. So you must start vacuuming close to you and work away from you to prevent the stuff you're trying to vacuum up from blowing around. Still, that's easily done, so not a true "con."
This thing is so easy my 2-year-old and 4-year-old can use it, and they think it's easy to hold and love to vacuum up after themselves with it! I think this is a must-have if you have small children.

I am so glad that I did not listen to the negative reviews on this product. I don't know if some people expect it to do more than it was meant to do; I always considered these hand held vacuums to be for quick pick ups. I always had the traditional Black and Decker dust busters but I wanted something pretty that I could keep out in my bathroom for picking up hair that always accumulates on the floor and counter from combing and styling hair. This fits the bill and more!!It has much more power than the old B&D dust busters,I am not bothered by the blowing air(all dust busters do this you just have to get used to it), and it is pretty enough to keep on the counter which means it gets used more often ( you know out of sight out of mind). Overall, I am very pleased with this product and would consider getting another one for the downstairs area.

I use this Vacuum for my auto detailing company. It is compact, powerful, easy to clean out and comes with a lot of useful attachements. The hose is flexible and well made. I will br buying more of these.

Unit breaks faster than my vacuums from home depot, I have two of these and both are busted. The case, which is made of metal and feels very solid has clips that break after a while and won't hold the top on. Also, if you step on the hose, it bends permanently and doesn't work as well and clogs after that.

First, before this purchase (of 2 hand vacs), I have never bought any hand held vac that was NOT a Black & Decker DUST BUSTER. I suppose that is because they were the first to have a cordless/rechargeable hand vac, and inertia took over when it came time for me to replace them. By the time the thrill of having that first rechargeable hand held vac wore off, there were other companies making hand held vacs, but I stuck with B&D's DB's. I cussed them out over various things - mostly they just weren't very good. There were few choices of model; the accessories from one generation didn't fit the next generation even when the next generation came on the market with no accessories (dust brush, crevice tools, etc.). This was one of the few times in my life I put up with any serious product dissatisfaction. Shortly after I purchased my last 2 B&D DB's (I always have 2 because of the layout of our house), I decided that I had no idea what brand of hand vac I would purchase next, but it WOULD NOT BE A DUST BUSTER from B&D.
Because of living in a remote area I shop at AMAZON often (because of free shipping and regularly LOW prices too), and because I try to boycott Walmart (the only "discount" retailer I am within 50 miles of). When I started to compare various hand vacs I complained to my husband how confusing all the choices were and he tossed me the most recent issue of Consumer Reports Magazine that rated Vacs. Often CR samples too few choices to end up with my ultimate choice, but I can track the quality reports based on manufacturer, and it looked as though Dirt Devil deserved a long, hard look.
While researching and comparing models and features I learned that DD manufactures some models under their own name but then limits the distribution of those models to certain retailers. I hope this information can save you some time if you also research acquisitions carefully (as I do). This Amazon model is shown (by searching for the model number) at Dirt Devil's website. There is another one shown there that is otherwise identical (BD10040) except its snout is clear, not red. Neither of them can be ordered from Dirt Devil. At first I suspected that they were discontinued models, and since the MSRP was a little different I was also confused as to whether they were exactly the same. After some absolutely defiant stubbornness by me (with the 4th or 5th "overseas" representative) I spoke to, one finally explained the different models to me. This one is available through Amazon (cheapest) and Target only, and the other one is available through WalMart only.
I am absolutely positive that my time was well spent, at least for me (the original "WHY" kid) because I would always have fretted that I'd bought a discontinued model that Amazon had sitting around (which did not make sense since no one had yet written a review of it, and it was listed at [...] with no reviews there either. Now that I know that the BD10040 and the BD10045 are the same, I suggest that you also look at the reviews at [...].
The manufacturer started marketing this unit during a changeover of "filter" styles. This model takes #3-ME1300-001 (also #3-ME1300-00X). Both numbers appear on the box of them that I purchased (contained 2 filters), just as I have shown them, including the parentheses and "also". There may be information WITH your unit or at DD's website that talks about an adapter. The adapter and the filter used with it have been superceded by the number(s) I have shown.
And now about the pros and cons of the Accu-Charge Cordless 15.6-Volt Hand Vac . . . It has very powerful vacuum suction, but I wish the opening was a little wider (like on the Dust Buster's). I also wish the very, very convenient on-board (retractable) crevice tool was flatter (like the Dust Buster's). I wish the pull out (retractable) brush bar was removable or retracted in completely. Other than those 3 things that are probably just "period of adjustment" issues, I can say, from just a few uses so far, that I am certain I will be happier with these 2 Dirt Devils than I ever really was with the various Dust Busters I owned through the years, model after model. I heartily recommend this hand vacuum. I am also very pleased with the fast recharge (only 6 hours), the fact that there is a light that goes out when the vac is fully charged, and that it has new charging/recharging technology that reduces the charger's output to a "trickle charge" once the unit is charged. This should increase the battery life considerably and cut down on power usage too. (Dirt Devil says it cuts power consumption by 70%). The charging stand can be wall mounted for extra convenience. This vac has a 3-YEAR WARRANTY.

Pictured carry case not included - William Taber - Indianapolis
I purchased this product which arrived without the pictured carry case. The carry case was one feature that helped me decide on this unit, as I don't relish the thought of trying to keep track of all those accessories without the case. Since there was no case, I sent the whole unit back for a refund. The refund was prompt and hassle free, so I give great kudos to Amazon for their terrific customer service! My solution to my micro vacuum needs was to visit my local vacuum shop and ask for similar attachments that I could connect to my home vacuum unit. The shop had attachments which were very similar (no 3 foot black flex hose in the kit, but a 2 foot clear high-pressure 3/8" hose) and came in a ziplock bag for storage. Its a nice solution for a lot lower price than purchase of the micro vacuum with attachments.
EDIT 13-May-2010: The product picture has been updated since my original review and no longer shows the plastic carry case. I commend Amazon for updating the product picture.
